cups-pdf software package provides PDF writer backend for CUPS (dummy transitional package), you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install cups-pdf
cups-pdf is installed in your system.
Make ensure the cups-pdf package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep cups-pdf *
You will get with cups-pdf package name, version, architecture and description in a table
